QVIS CALPERNIA EST
Nov. 22nd, 2024 02:32 pmCalpernia (spelled with an E for some reason) is a boss fight character from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Dragon Age is a medieval fantasy universe with elves, dwarves, horned people (Qunari), and magic. Calpernia is a human with magical powers.
She is from the Tevinter Empire, which is loosely based on the Roman Empire. Slavery is legal in the Tevinter Empire, and Calpernia's backstory involves slavery. I will warn for it when it comes up, but please let me know if you don't want to interface with this aspect / Calpernia in general.
In Calpernia's setting, oppression exists against nonhumans (elves specifically) and occasionally magic-users, and if you want me to warn for that, I will. I'm not going to without someone asking, though, because I kind of feel like that trivializes real life oppression / racism.

As for Calpernia specifically, she's a villainous character with some very odd ideas about power and control. (She wants to end slavery, but not, for example, because she thinks slavery is morally wrong.) She is capable of being reasonable and forming bonds, having conversations, etc, but her first instinct is not to be kind or gentle.
